Momento Mori

So this is my Momento Mori (remember that you must die) a subject that has always fascinated me.
It all started when i found a bag of disregarded toys on the floor and decided to cover a skull with the plants, before i knew it i was so charmed by the texture of toy plants that i decided to continue.
In the end this piece entitled " i'll be a kid until the day i die" became a  forest landscape on a half decomposed skeleton where one can project one's imagination and create stories within this mico- fantasy world ( which i used to do as a child).
Basically creating a full loop from my imagination as a child to the way i think now and continuing far beyond what will happen when i'm gone.

This peiec is currently showing in The View Gallery Bristol UK.

Iris van Herpen Bird dress

This month I had the honor to help out on one of the new pieces in the Iris van Herpen collection. Needless to say I am and have been a huge fan of her aesthetic and it was an incredible experience to be able to see her atelier and the process in which her daring creations come to life.
I was asked to make three bird heads for one of my favorite pieces of her new collection shown in Paris for Fashion week 2013.
The heads are gull skulls with pearls, silicone and flower details.

Thanks again Iris ;)

Every year the bloembureau (flower office) of Holland makes an event celebrating a species of flowers and this year i was lucky enough to be chosen to promote the bromeliad flower.
The idea was to make a piece that appeals to the fashion carrier based Dutch woman and the result would be displayed in the Maison de bonneterie in Amsterdam.
Afetr long consideration i decided to make a window display including a dress and a flower skeleton and in this case i was lucky enough to be able to work on a Puma skeleton.

It was quite different from my usual techniques to use real flowers and as much as the perishable aspect scared me at first these particular flowers have proven to be resilient and beautiful beyond my expectations.
Needless to say this was a LOT of fun to work on.

Galley Da-End Paris

I have recently had the occasion to work with Gallery Da -End in Paris (http://www.da-end.com/)
during their summer collaboration exhibition entitled "fleurs du mal" centered around flowers.
For this theme i decided to make my second fairy throne, made of diverse bones and a few dried plant elements the idea was to make a throne fit for a fairy king in nature.

Fairy Throne 2

This is the second fairy throne that i have made so far, I took inspiration from the title of the upcoming exhibition "les fleurs du mal"of gallery Da-end in Paris,  i have had a lot of fun playing with it's architecture and am still fascinated by how much bones have to offer in terms of shapes and texture.
special thanks to Rob Achterberg and Marianne Hofstee for their donations.

This Piece will be exposed in Paris fron the 16th of May to the 20th of July in gallery Da-end during the "fleurs du mal"exhibition.
